A Dutch engraved goblet and cover, the glass Saxon, second quarter 18th century

The generous thistle-shaped bowl with a solid beaded base, decorated with a circular cartouche enclosing a finely-dressed lady and her baby in a formal fenced garden, the gate open, the reverse stylised scrolled foliage and the inscription 'IK NIET UER MYNDT DEESES DE ER LEEUEN DAT MYN/ THUYN SO THANE VRUGT SAAL GEEVEN' (I did not think that this life would bear fruit like this), the base of the bowl and elaborate multi-knopped hollow baluster stem all cut with facets, on a folded conical foot, the domed cover with a foliate border and tall hollow multi-knopped finial similarly facet-cut, 42cm high (2)
