A pearlware Admiral Lord Rodney mug, circa 1782-85

Modelled as the head and shoulders of the naval hero, the rim moulded with the inscription 'SUCCESS TO LORD RODNEY', the loop handle moulded with husks, coloured in brown, ochre, blue and green, 12.5cm high

George Brydges Rodney (1719-1792), first Baron Rodney was made Admiral in 1778. In 1782, he defeated the French at the Battle of the Saintes. Two creamware examples of the same shape are illustrated by John and Griselda Lewis, Pratt Ware (1984), p.144.
