Of globular form on a spreading foot, applied with a strap handle and short trumpet spout, painted in blue with a cherub and shell label inscribed 'S:CYDONIO', 16.2cm high

Syrupus Cydoniorum, was a syrup of quinces made from boiling the fruit with wine and sugar and then adding cinnamon, cloves and ginger. It was said to be 'an excellent Syrup for the Stomach, and stops vomiting and fluxes of the belly', see John Pechey, The London Dispensatory, published 1694.
