A brass shield (dhal)
North India, 19th Century

of convex circular form with everted rim and four applied bosses in the form of lion heads, with applied decoration consisting of four cartouches variously containing hunting scenes and animals in combat, interspersed by foliate cartouches and floral interlace, with a central rosette surrounded by four flowerheads, all on a punched ground, the rim reinforced with applied lobed band and ropework, with four suspension loops to reverse
49 cm. diam.
