When describing his inspiration for the 'Arm' sculptures, Kenneth Armitage refers to how his eye 'suddenly caught sight of this fragment of a colossal statue, part of a forearm, resting on two blocks' whilst visiting the British Museum. The resulting sculptures are described in Kenneth Armitage: Life and Work as marking the beginning of a shift away from Armitage's Epstein influenced bronzes, towards a more contemporary, geometric style.
