Footnotes

Provenance
Property from a private collection, France.
Acquired from Galerie Daniel Legrand, Paris in 2010.

The lithograph is in a portfolio accompanied by a signed introduction by Raza's friend and author Oliver German-Thomas in French, the English translation of which is below,

'This book, printed on Arches paper, is enriched with a lithograph by Sayed Haider Raza, and is signed and numbered by the artist, and produced by the Atelier des Encres in October 2009, this print consists of 20 numbered copies of HCI to HC VI, the whole signed in the colophon, by the author.'

This is copy 6/20.

'It was the search for the intangible. My quest to create the tangible altered during the seventies. I tried to find ways to capture the moods of places and people. I had a preoccupation with evoking the essence of emotions and moods more than a visual sight. Elementary experiences of night and day, joy and anguish, summer and winter became my subjects for the fact that they were felt more than seen. From that gestural period of tones and expression, I moved to a new period in the eighties.' - S.H. Raza
