Sain was a Bengali artist who spent much of his life in the mountain town of Darjeeling. A prolific figure, he is recognised for his published work on Himalayan flora, as well as his oil paintings and hand-painted photographs. The present lot depicts a woman walking along a mountain path, with the majestic Kanchenjunga peak of the eastern Himalayas rising in the background. Working in the realist tradition, Sain frequently captured the wondrous beauty of the Himalayan landscape. This painting stands as a striking example of his landscape practice, reflecting both his technical skill and his deep engagement with the scenery of West Bengal.
