Viswanadhan is an Indian contemporary artist from Kerala who lives and works in Paris, while also maintaining a studio in Cholamandal. After settling in Paris in 1967, he engaged with concepts of space, tantric mandalas, and geometric forms, eventually developing a synthesis between Eastern traditions and Western modernism. His encounter with contemporary Western art prompted a shift in his practice; moving away from esoteric geometrical symbolism, he began to approach space as an expression of time.
In this striking work, expansive washes of ochre and gold are layered with sharp, angular lines. The composition embodies Viswanadhan's ongoing poetic exploration of the interplay between geometry, space, and time, while drawing on his tantric roots.
