Footnotes

Paul Podolsky's career in the jewellery trade spans over 70 years, during which time he trained three generations of apprentices and became a liveryman of The Goldsmiths' Company. Originally aspiring to become an artist, he joined his father Eyna Podolsky's jewellery business in Greville Street, and took over the family business in 1947. In 1964, he won first place in the De Beers diamond ring competition. Throughout his career, he championed design and education, mentoring apprentices and inspiring the Podolsky award to support young talent in jewellery and silversmithing. The abstract form of this brooch is typical of 1960's and 1970's jewellery design; a period which celebrated bold, avant-garde designs.
