Footnotes

A necklace of similar design by renowned jeweller Suzanne Belperron was formally in the collection of The Duchess of Windsor. Suzanne Belperron was one of the innovators of modern jewellery design, often mixing hardstones, such as chalcedony and rock crystal, with precious gemstones, such as diamonds and sapphires. Belperron began her career in 1919 designing for René Boivin and later Bernard Herz; a foundation from which she developed bold, original and imaginative designs that quickly became sought after by some of the most influential and stylish women of their time, such as The Duchess of Windsor. These jewels have since become iconic in the timeline of jewellery design.
