For other similar designs by Luis Masriera, see Becker, V. 'Art Nouveau Jewellery', 1985, pp.208, p.326.

Founded in 1839 in Barcelona, the firm of Masriera is celebrated today for its masterpieces of the Art Nouveau period. Throughout the mid to late 19th century, the house received widespread acclaim, earning numerous awards at international exhibitions in Barcelona, Munich and Paris.

Luis Masriera's visit to the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900, where Art Nouveau reached its apogee through the works of the likes of René Lalique, proved decisive, inspiring him to develop the aesthetic that would become synonymous with the firm. On his return to Barcelona, he developed a style distinguished by its technical virtuosity and refined use of enamel.

By the early 20th century, Masriera's creations epitomised the Art Nouveau movement, typically depicting ethereal female figures and natural motifs with sinuous, flowing lines. Often complemented by pearls and delicate gemstone accents, these jewels remain admired for their artistry, elegance and exceptional craftsmanship.
