IBERIAN GOLD AND DIAMOND LACA BROOCH, LATE 19TH CENTURY

The three articulating pierced scrolled plaques, set throughout with table-cut diamonds, closed back settings mounted in gold, length 9.0cm

Footnotes

This brooch is an example of the laça bow-knot bodice ornament, a typically Portuguese motif that came to prominence during the 17th century. The laça bow-knot brooch differs from the sévigné bow-knot as it combines the ribbon-bow together with a cruciform pendant.
