After the Second World War, Mario Buccellati's three sons joined him in the family business. Initially, Gianmaria (1929-2015) took care of the creative side, while Lorenzo and Federico focused on the firm's expansion across Italy. After Mario's death in 1965, the management of the firm was overseen by four of his five sons. Gianmaria launched a separate business from his brothers in 1971 under the name "Gianmaria Buccellati" before re-forming the company with his family as "Buccellati" in 2011. Gianmaria honoured the family tradition of designing pieces that were often unique, with some produced in limited editions. Mario Buccellati opened his first store in Milan in 1919 before opening a second in 1951 on 51st Street in New York. However, it is Gianmaria Buccellati who is largely credited with transforming the family business into a global luxury brand with locations including Paris, London, Moscow, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Milan, Capri, Aspen, Beverly Hills and Sydney all established under his leadership. His work drew inspiration from nature and Renaissance architecture, frequently incorporating elements such as precious and semi-precious stones, cultured pearls and the distinctive hand-engraved techniques passed down from his father - the resulting fabric-like quality of their precious metals remains a signature look for the Buccellati brand to this day.
