CHAUMET: DIAMOND AND ENAMEL COMPASS, CIRCA 1915

The circular compass rose engraved with primary cardinal and secondary intercardinal points, blue enamelled needle, central starburst motif, encircled with black enamelled casing and further single-cut diamond detailing, opening hinged arms, possibly for storage of two coins, the reverse bearing the crest and Latin motto for the the Anglo-Indian Petit family of Baronets, motto reading Consequitur quod cunque Petit , translating to He obtains whatever he asks , makers mark for Joseph Chaumet, French assay marks, diamonds approximately 1.25 carats total, length 6.0cm

Footnotes

The Petit Baronetcy was created in 1890 for the Indian industrialist and philanthropist Sir Dinshaw Maneckji Petit (1823-1901). The Petits were one of a few Indian families to be awarded a hereditary baronetcy by Queen Victoria in recognition of their work for the betterment of their country.
