Margaret Nevinson, daughter of Thomas Nevinson of Eastry, Kent, married Sir James Oxenden (1586-1657), eldest son of Sir Henry Oxenden, of Deane, near Wingham, Kent. The family became important patrons to Cornelius Jonson, who retired to the village of Bridge, in Kent, near to Broome Park, the Oxenden family home. Eight portraits by Jonson in total are known to have been commissioned by the family, five of which are dated 1636 and one 1637.
