Footnotes
Many of King's botanical watercolours were of specimens that he encountered in the garden of the amateur botanist Thomas Skinner, who had collected several plants from the Americas and transplanted them to suburban London. King was one of the artists whose works were included in the 2018 exhibition at the Huntington Library, California, In pursuit of Flora; 18th Century Botanical Drawings from the Huntington's Art Collections curated by Melinda McCurdy.
