The present work is a smaller, less full, version of Solimena's large ceiling painting in the Palace of Count Wirich Daunm, Viceroy of Naples, which entered the collection of the National Gallery, Prague in 1798. Two modelli, of similar dimensions to the present work, are known to exist: one offered Christie's, New York, 26 January 2001, lot 152; and another in the Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento (inv.no. 1872.142).
Nicola Spinosa confirmed the attribution to Francesco Solimena at the time of last sale (private communication, 13 October 2018).
