A 'COCKEREL' SATSUMA JAR, COVER AND STAND

Meiji period
Of rounded bulbous form, the body decorated with shaped panels variously enclosing gentlemen and ladies conversing in interior settings as well as children at play, against a polychrome background with a profusion of geometric and floral patterns, a band below the rim enclosing rams, monkeys and deer against a gilt-speckled white ground, the cover similarly decorated surmounted by a large cockerel, the stand of waisted form, painted in a dense polychrome brocade ground.
