A KUTANI VASE AND A SATSUMA BOWL

Meiji period
The vase rising from a splayed foot to an ovoid body and a flared neck, painted in polychrome with figures in a bustling street scene, variously highlighted in gilt, the neck and shoulder with a band of gilt-decorated flower medallions and scrolling foliage flanked by a pair of kirin animals; the exterior of the bowl decorated with figures in nature next to a riverbank, the interior with figures in a garden of bamboo trees and peonies, signed Meizan to the base.
