Born in 1978, Cameron Platter lives and works in KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The artist works across an array of mediums from tapestry, paintings, sculpture and video. Dynamic and striking, Platter idiosyncratically incorporates bold aesthetics seen in advertising campaigns to explore notions such as consumerist and pop culture, as well as power, and social structures. Thematically his works tend to take on a level of implied irony or humour and aims to draw a focus to the overlooked aspects of everyday life.
His works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and San Francisco, the Venice and Dakar Biennales, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Furthermore, his art holds a permanent fixture at the South African National Gallery and Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town, the FRAC des Pays de la Loire in France, and the Margulies Collection and MoMA in the US.
