Angelo Garino trained in Turin at the Doyen lithographic works. In 1891, he studied at Pier Celestino Gilardi's School of Painting and the Costume School of the Albertina Academy. He initially devoted himself to landscapes, but became known above all for his portraits—elegant female figures, mostly full-length, sometimes set in natural settings—as well as for his Oriental and contemporary interior scenes.
Garino devoted himself mainly to genre paintings, but his landscapes are executed with bold brushstrokes and intense luminosity, blending 19th-century Piedmontese landscape painting with French Post-Impressionism and characterized by a careful observation of nature. In 1879, he presented First Impressions at the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti in Turin, where he exhibited continually until 1893. Between 1879 and 1893, he also exhibited in Milan, Venice, London, Turin and Genoa, before settling in Nice towards the end of his life.
