A study for the figure of Lancelot, from The Arming and Departure of the Knights, one of a set of six tapestries illustrating the Quest for the Holy Grail as described in Sir Thomas Malory's Morte d'Arthur. Made by Morris & Co., the tapestries were commissioned by William Knox D'Arcy for his dining room in Stanmore Hall. Morris & Co. worked on the series from 1891-1894, with Burne-Jones designing the composition and figures. The company produced several subsequent sets of the tapestries between 1895 and 1899.
