Assiette «en camée» en porcelaine de Sèvres, vers 1808

A Sèvres cameo plate, circa 1808


Painted by Nicolas Marie Moriot, signed "Moriot" at the base of the bust, en grisaille in imitation of cameo with a circular classical bust seen from the rear within a gilt band, a band of gilt foliage, and a gilt floral scrollwork band on a red ground around the rim, 23.1cm diam., "M.Imple/se Sevres/8" stencilled in iron-red, "AM" in blue, incised DC and 7, red-painted inventory no. 25.417.33, (very minor wear)

A similar plate is in the Smithsonian. The bust portrait may be based on the "Vénus d'Arles" in the Louvre.

Bien que la porcelaine date de 1808, l'assiette fut décorée postérieurement par Nicolas Marie Moriot qui ne fut actif à la manufacture de Sèvres qu'à partir de 1828.
Please note that the porcelain dates from 1808, but the plate was later decorated by Nicolas Marie Moriot, who was active at the Sèvres manufacture from 1828.
