Rare pendule en bronze doré et ciselé, par Ellicott, du milieu du XVIIIe siècle

A rare mid 18th century English ormolu mantle clock, with white enamel dial

Ellicott, London

The rectangular case with arched top surmounted by three urn finials, the canted front corners set with silk-backed sound frets centred by medallions, the whole raised on four floral cast feet. The 3.5 inch white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and Arabic five-minute markers, with later hands. The movement secured within the case by a pair of finely engraved brackets, powered by twin fusees, formerly with gut lines and now with chain, the original verge pendulum escapement later converted to a cylinder platform. Striking the hours on a bell mounted to the left-hand side of the plates via a rack and snail mechanism. The backplate finely engraved with scrolling foliate decoration and signed to the centre within a cartouche Ellicott, London.
