An early 18th century table clock movement and dial now in a later walnut case.

Joseph Antram, London

The case surmounted by a foliate-tied brass carrying handle over a shallow caddy top adorned with applied mounts of tulips and scrolling foliage, above a moulded cornice. The front with further applied brass mounts and lock escutcheon, together with a pierced sound fret backed in red silk, the sides each with twin glazed observation windows and the rear with a square glazed aperture, the whole raised on a moulded base and four brass bun feet. The 5 inch brass dial with silvered Roman chapter ring and Arabic five-minute markers, the hours divided by fleur-de-lys half-hour markers, the finely matted centre with mock pendulum aperture, ringed winding squares and calendar aperture to the lower section, all framed by cast winged cherub spandrels within a wheatear-engraved border, the break arch with strike/silent dial, and blued steel hands.
The twin fusee movement, originally with verge escapement and now converted to anchor, with five robust knopped pillars, striking the hours on a bell mounted above the backplate via rack and snail. The backplate finely engraved with flowing scrolls, acanthus leaves and foliate motifs, signed within a cartouche Joseph Antram, London. 42cm (16.5ins) high.
