Pendule de table à quart d'heure par William Creak, à décor laqué, du milieu du XVIIIe siècle

A good mid 18th century lacquered quarter chiming table clock

William Creak, Royal Exchange, London

The bell topped case with five finials over shaped glazed side apertures, a tall moulded plinth base with shaped apron, decorated allover with flowers and leaves interspersed by lattice-decorated panels picked out in gilt on a red ground. The 17.5cm (7ins) arched brass dial with twin subsidiaries in the arch for rise-and-fall regulation and TOCA/NO TOCAR (Strike/Not strike) framing the recessed silvered signature plaque, Roman and Arabic chapter ring, matted centre, date and mock pendulum apertures. The triple gut fusee movement with verge escapement striking the hours on a gong and chiming the quarters on a nest of eight bells and hammers. The backplate with single line border framing the asymmetric foliate scrolls, a basket of fruit including a pomegranate and exotic bird. Ticking, striking and chiming quarters, would benefit from a service. 32cm high.
