Deux perroquets en porcelaine de Meissen, vers 1740

Two Meissen parrots, circa 1740

Modelled by J J Kaendler, naturalistically modelled and vividly coloured, perched on tree-stump bases, 20cm and 19cm, (some typical restoration to applied leaves, the right-hand parrot with tips of both wings restuck and a few small retouched chips to leaves on base) (2)

Footnotes

Kaendler modelled a variety of parrots around the same time during visits to the royal aviary at Schloss Moritzburg; several are illustrated by Rainer Rückert, Meissener Porzellan 1710-1810, 1966, nos. 1080-1086. One other example of this model are in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (inv. C.4A-1984).
