Provenance
Collection of Pasquale Vivolo, Forte dei Marmi, sold at Sothebys Milan, 13 November 2007, lot 147

Literature
Biancalana, Alessandro, Porcellane Ginori a Doccia. La stanza delle meraviglie di casa Colli, 2023, pp. 355-358, cat. 78

This cup recalls chinoiserie scenes depicted by Johann Gregorius Heroldt on Meissen porcelain during the 1720s, that painters at Doccia might have seen in real life in the Grand Ducal porcelain collections. The ability to copy designs used on Meissen led to the flourishing of the "alla Sassone" style at Doccia. Biancalana (op. cit, p. 358) makes an attribution to Anton Anreiter (active from 1742), the eldest son of Carl Wendelin, on the basis of the pictorial style that suggests a young hand.

A similar example is in the Lokar collection, published in Andreina d'Agliano, Porcellane italiane nella collezione Lokar, 2013, p. 177, cat. 81).
