Figure en porcelaine représentant un homme assis au cacatoès, Meissen, vers 1922-23

A Meissen seated figure of a man holding a cockatoo, circa 1922-23

Modelled by Paul Scheurich, leaning against a palm tree-trunk with a cockatoo perched on his right hand, wearing a puce-lined white tunic with purple ribbons and a sword at the rear, gilt buttons, his sleeves with red tassels, his slippers with yellow tips and gilt buttons, the oval base moulded with leaves and grass heightened in green, 21cm high, 24cm wide, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, incised model number G.294., impressed former number 123 (some restoration to the tip of his left foot and slipper)

Footnotes

The Meissen manufactory purchased the model of this figure on 20 March 1922 for RM 15,000, though it is likely that Scheurich had completed it sometime earlier. A companion figure, 'Orientalin mit Flöte' (see preceding lot), was delayed because Scheurich fell ill from August 1923, and so the figure of the man with cockatoo was sold from Summer 1923 without its companion. By the end of 1931 69 examples had been sold.
