Scheurich completed this model in plaster before July 1917. It was originally conceived as a boy holding grapes and offered to the Meissen manufactory in July 1918. Scheurich altered the model in 1919 to depict Cupid holding a bow, probably at the wish of the manufactory, which purchased the figure the same year. This figure was one of the most successful of the modern designs at Meissen: by the end of 1931 around 400 had been sold.
The Urstück (Artist's Proof) no.5 was in the collection of Prof. J. Rafael, sold in these rooms, 14 April 2022, lot 18.
