Figure en porcelaine représentant une femme allongée, Berlin (KPM), après 1930

A Berlin (KPM) figure of a reclining lady (Ruhende), circa 1930 or later

Modelled by Paul Scheurich, the reclining figure resting on a cornucopia, her hair festooned with pearls and feathers, holding her drapery over her knee with her right hand, otherwise in the nude apart from her sandals with small sashes and buttons just protruding over the edge of the oval tiered socle, 24cm high, 42cm wide, sceptre mark in underglaze-blue, impressed numerals 11001

Footnotes

Paul Scheurich had initially sent the models for this reclining woman, Apollo and Daphne to the Meissen manufactory. The 68-year old Director of Works, Privy Conucillor of Mines Dr. Heintze, returned them to the artist without informing the manufactory's then Commerical Director, Max Adolf Pfeiffer, with the remark that "the manufactory has enough naked figures." All three models were a commercial success for the Berlin manufactory (Rafael 2018, p. 39).
