A Meissen figure of a butcher, circa 1750-55


Modelled by J.J. Kaendler, chopping a joint on a tree-stump block, wearing a black tricorn hat, pale yellow coat, purple apron and brown breeches, the base modelled with purple-edged scrollwork and applied with leaves and flowers, 18.8cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to rear edge of base (right hand and top half of axe restuck, right foot restuck)
