A Meissen figural trinket box and cover, circa 1937-45


Modelled by Paul Scheurich, of rectangular shape, the corners decorated with purple sheaves, the finial in the shape of a masked coquette seated on cushion within a quadrilobed cartouche edged in purple, 12.2cm long; 11cm high; 9cm wide, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue to base, impressed model number A1272 and former numeral 156 (2)

Footnotes

The model was purchased in 1937 and produced in porcelain the same year. It was exhibited at the Hetjens-Museum in Düsseldorf in 1938, when the first example was also sold. A total of only five examples were sold by 1945 (three decorated and two white).
