Footnotes

The manufactory began paying Scheurich for the model in instalments while he was still developing it in 1930. After a period of waning interest, he exhibited the unfinished plaster version in the spring of 1931 and convinced the manufactory to increase their payment for it to 2,900 RM. The completed model was delivered in February 1932, though production in porcelain did not commence until early 1933. Shortly thereafter, Pfeiffer departed from the manufactory, and Scheurich declined Meissen's request to devise a colouring scheme, insisting the model be produced in pure white. As a result, the white pieces that had already been manufactured remained on the shelves for several years.

Under the leadership of Müller von Baczko, Scheurich eventually reconciled with the manufactory, and The Amazon was showcased at the Paris World Exhibition, where the group was awarded a Grand Prix alongside five other works by the artist. Despite this acclaim and further exhibitions, the model failed to gain widespread popularity, with only eleven examples entering the market by 1945. After the war, the group was sold decorated.
