After his prolonged illness Scheurich finally recovered in 1928 and started working on a new model in the autumn of that year. But it wasn't until 1930 that he completed the Turkish couple on horseback and it was delivered to the manufactory (total purchase price of RM 2800). The first piece was produced in porcelain that same year and decorated in 1931. It was subsequently sold at the end of the year for RM 224. By the end of 1944 11 had entered the market, including three white versions. The model was one of six that won Scheurich the Grand Prix at the Paris Wold Exhibition in 1937.
Scheurich's drawings and his instructions for the group's decoration have survived and can still be found in the archive at Meissen (illustrated in Johannes Rafael, Paul Scheurich 1883-1945 Porzellane für die Meissener Manufaktur, Meissener Manuskripte, Sonderband VIII, 1995, p. 78, ill. 35.1).
