A Meissen armorial reticulated box and cover (Drüselkästchen), late 19th century

After the model by J.J. Kaendler, in the form of a Baroque tureen and cover, with panels of gilt-edged pierced scroll- and strapwork alternating with panels of gilt scrollwork, each side with a landscape panel within a moulded cartouche, flanked by applied floral and drapery swags held by putti, the handles in the form of female busts, burnished gilt interior, the cover applied with two cartouches with the arms of Saxony and Poland below a crown supported on a cushion by two putti, each end applied with a cartouche painted with a huntsman, the rim with four smaller cartouches depicting couples in landscapes, alternating with narrow panels depicting puce harbour scenes against the burnished gilt ground, the inside of the cover moulded with indianische Blumen heightened in enamels, burnished gilt rim, 26cm long, 19cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, incised model number B.136, impressed 66 (minor chips and losses) (2)
