A Berlin KPM topographical vase (Französische Vase mit Greifenkopfhenkeln) with a view of Babelsberg Palace, circa 1849-1870

Of ovoid shape, the handles in the shape of gryphons, the gilt-ground neck and foot picked out with a scrolling oak leaf frieze, the blue-ground body reserved with two views of Schloss Babelsberg within rectangular tooled gilt cartouches, titled in black to the inside rim "Schloss Babelsberg bei Potsdam," on a square plinth base, 22cm high, sceptre mark above roundel in underglaze-blue, stencilled orb and KPM mark in iron-red

Babelsberg Palace served as a summer home for Crown Prince William, who later became Emperor William I upon its completion in 1833. The palace's design, created by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, features a neo-Gothic style influenced by English Tudor architecture.
