Gabin Djimassé, writing about the present lot, states: 'This statuette carved in wood is used as a support for a certain number of elements: gourds, beads, cowry shells, clay, poultry feathers, Hevioso's axe (on the head), sacrificial elements. This piece is associated with the family of the vodun Hevioso, which means it was used by all of the priests or devotees of this vodun. One of Hevioso's roles is to protect those who put themselves under his care from any occult attack that might be harmful to them'. (Kerchache, J. et al., Vaudou, Paris, 2011, p.204)
