Footnotes

Note
Laura Gilpin's exploration of photography began during her early teenage years when she was gifted an Eastman Kodak Brownie camera and used it to produce her first gelatin silver prints. By the age of 17, Gilpin had graduated to the Autochrome Lumière - the first commercially available color photography process - which she used to make the present image in 1912. The Autochrome process was celebrated for rendering densely saturated images that are recognizable by their deep dark tones and rich warm hues. In 1974, Gilpin made a color negative of her original Autochrome plate, which she used to print the present chromogenic print.
