Note
During John F. Kennedy's presidency, Elliott Erwitt was assigned to cover his administration for Collier's magazine, which allowed the photographer to attend many events at the White House between 1961 and 1963. Erwitt was deeply affected by Kennedy's assassination. During his funeral, he stood away from the crowds and focused a 600mm telephoto lens on the First Lady. This image of Jacqueline Kennedy's veiled face expressed the shock, disbelief, and sorrow felt by the Kennedy family and the nation as a whole.
