A Sèvres powder-blue vase with cover (vase de Nola II), dated 1881-84

Of ovoid shape, with powder-blue ground edged with gilt bands, 32.5cm high, "S.81" stencilled in green, "DORE A SEVRES RF 84" stencilled in red, painter's mark ".A.", incised AB 81 9 n(?) (chip to footrim, tiny chip to rim, cover with small chip to the rim) (2)

The model was created by Albert Carrier-Belleuse. Further examples are kept now in the National Museum of Troyes and Lille.

A pair of mottled caramel-brown ground vase de Nola I (without covers) and smaller size was sold at Christie's New York, 26 November 2013, lot 354. A covered mottled blue ground example as the present lot and with flower decoration was sold at Christie's New York 24 April 2002, lot 32.
