A good mid 19th century skeleton timepiece in a later display case

W. Batty, Manchester
Surmounted by a bell with an axe-shaped hammer, the frame pierced and decorated with scrolls, oak leaves, and fleur-de-lys motifs. The 6-inch pierced chapter ring, with Gothic Roman numerals and blued steel hands. The single train movement with chain-driven fusee, passing strike, and five-spoke wheels, signed to the front plate W Batty, Manchester with a half-deadbeat escapement and gridiron-style pendulum. Together with a later glazed cabinet and modern winding key. 46cms (18 inches) high
