A good late 18th century mahogany tavern clock

James Barfoot, Wimbourn
The mahogany case with shell and neoclassical marquetry inlay flanked by recessed columns and chisel-shaped base. The 20-inch painted dial with Roman hour numerals and Arabic minute indications, the centre signed James Barfoot, Wimbourn, with painted brass hands. The four-pillared movement with anchor escapement, counterbalanced motion work for the large hands, and evidence of a redundant passing strike, together with a later crank winking key and a case key. 134cms high (53 ichs)
