Kuizenga collection, the Netherlands, acquired in Dortmund 9th May 1987.

Such vessels were used for mixing wine and water, and pottery kraters would likely have provided a cheaper option to similar bronze examples. There is another black-glazed Laconian krater in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, acc. no. 66.11.16.
