Provenance:
Resandro collection, Europe, primarily formed late 1960s-1997 (R-041 (HA 46), R-255 (HA 103), R-225 (HA 57), R-658 (HA 135), R-194 (HB 47), R-257 (HA 8), R-399 (HA 55)).

Published:

The shen-sign was formed from a length of papyrus rope looped around into a circle, with binding along the lower edge; it represented everything the sun encircled, i.e. the universe, and had connotations of protecting what lay therein (C. Andrews, Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p. 76-77).
