Footnotes

Provenance:
with Gallery Serodine, Ascona, 1989.
Private collection, Switzerland, acquired from the above prior to December 2003 (recorded in an inventory in December 2003).

This female head in profile is of a standardized type most often found in the healing sanctuaries of central and southern Etruria. That she is shown caput velatum (with a veil) indicates her piety before the gods, thereby strengthening her plea for greater fertility or general health.

See the British Museum, London, acc. no. 1814,0704.862 for a similar example.
