Twisted glass rods like this example are quite sturdy and were probably used for stirring wine and water in jugs or other vessels. For further discussion, cf. M. Spear, Ancient Glass in the Israel Museum: Beads and Other Small Objects, Jerusalem, 2001, p.262.
