A New York Private Collection of Ancient Glass; Christie's, New York, 12 December 2002, lot 382; acquired in Istanbul circa 1972.
Property from a Princely Collection, acquired at the above sale.

Cf. a larger mosaic glass alabastron in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, acc. no. 17.194.286a, b and another in the British Museum, London, acc. no. 1895,0602.1. The present lot likely belongs to a distinctive group of Late Hellenistic containers that comprised a body made of lengths of colored glass and a detachable neck and rim of translucent monochrome glass (now missing with this example, as with another at the Met, acc. no. 17.194.284).
