Provenance:

Anonymous sale; Pierre Bergé, Paris, 26 May 2011, lot 202.
with Rupert Wace Ancient Art Ltd., London.
Property from a Princely Collection, acquired from the above in 2012.
Many pottery spouted vessels of this form were found at Tepe Sialk in Iran, as well as a bronze spouted vessel, which is now in the Louvre in Paris (museum no. AO 17910; S 546A). Tepe Sialk was known as an early centre for silver production. It is possible that the reinforced silver neck on the present lot is an ancient repair.
Important Notice to Buyers
Some countries, e.g., the US, prohibit or restrict the purchase by its citizens (wherever located) and/or the import of certain types of works of particular origins. As a convenience to buyers, Bonhams has marked with the symbol R all lots of Iranian (Persian) and Syrian origin. It is each buyer's responsibility to ensure that they do not bid on or import a lot in contravention of the sanctions or trade embargoes that apply to them.
