Fritz Lampl was the artistic director of Bimini Glass in Vienna during the 1930s, where in his showroom he showed the early work of his close friend, Lucie Rie. Upon fleeing Austria in 1938 he settled in London where Rie (a fellow emigree), in need of work, joined him at his Bimini workshops creating ceramic buttons. Many of these examples in the collection are marked with the Bimini flowerpot stamp on the reverse and other examples are from her time in the late 1940s up to 1951 where she was creating buttons in her own studio prior to the Festival of Britain.
